Interactive prompt cheat sheet

Find a better way to ask ChatGPT.

A fast reference for everyday chat, writing, study, research, coding, file work, image understanding, image generation and image editing. Use the slash-style names as memorable prompt shortcuts.

Important: shortcuts such as /rewrite and /image on this page are convenient user-defined prompt patterns. They are not guaranteed native ChatGPT slash commands. Items labelled Interface capability describe a ChatGPT interaction you can request through the interface when available.

Build stronger prompts

Reusable structures for turning a vague request into a clear instruction.

General prompt formula

[task] + [subject] + [context] + [constraints] + [output format] Example: Summarise + this report + for a senior manager + focus on risks and decisions + return 5 bullets and a 3-row action table.

Image prompt formula

[subject] + [environment] + [composition] + [style] + [lighting] + [camera] + [colour] + [aspect ratio] + [text requirements] Example: A humanoid robot demonstrating AI at a university open day + modern technology hall + subject centred with visitors behind + premium editorial photography + bright soft daylight + eye-level 35 mm camera + clean blue and white palette + 4:5 + title text "Future in Motion".

Image editing formula

[change] + [target] + [what to preserve] + [visual match] + [output] Example: Replace the plain wall behind the speaker with a modern innovation lab. Keep the person, clothing, face, pose and foreground unchanged. Match the original perspective, shadows and lighting. Produce a realistic 16:9 result.

Analysis formula

[question] + [evidence] + [criteria] + [assumptions] + [comparison] + [decision format] Example: Compare these three options using cost, implementation effort, risk, scalability and user impact. State assumptions explicitly and finish with a recommendation and confidence level.

Weak prompt → stronger prompt

Adding audience, purpose, constraints and output format usually improves the result.

Writing

Weak Rewrite this email.
Improved Rewrite this email in a warm, professional tone. Keep it under 150 words, preserve the key dates, remove repetition and make the requested action clear.

Explanation

Weak Explain machine learning.
Improved Explain supervised machine learning to a first-year university student using one simple analogy, one realistic example and a five-step explanation. Avoid unnecessary maths.

Image generation

Weak Make a robot poster.
Improved Create an A3 portrait poster showing a friendly humanoid robot at a university technology showcase. Clean premium photography, white background, subtle blue accents, large negative space for a headline, realistic proportions and crisp studio lighting.

Image editing

Weak Fix the background.
Improved Replace only the background with a bright modern office. Keep the person, face, clothing, hands and foreground objects unchanged. Match the existing camera angle, depth of field, shadows and colour temperature.
